Jesse Monongya (Navajo) Silver and Inlay Bracelet, 1970s
J 10
Here’s a great story—Monongya made this bracelet for himself in Charles Loloma’s cornrow style around 1976, when he wanted a piece by Loloma but couldn’t afford one. He then sold it to the present owners, who had him sign it in 1985. (He must have been in a hurry, because he misspelled his name.) Pictured on page 70 of JESSE MONONGYA: OPAL BEARS AND LAPIS SKIES by Lois Sherr Dubin. Turquoise, lapis, coral and shell inlay. Inside size 7” with a 15/16” opening (rounded, so wears smaller), width 2”, weight 169 grams.
