A wonderful Maliseet/Maritime beaded bag with a Victorian brass frame and puffy velvet sides, c. 1870. Instead of sewing the two sides together in the usual fashion, sometimes Native beadworkers would attach them to Victorian velvet bags and frames, such as was done here. Excellent condition, and very unusual and striking beadwork patterns. 8 3/4" x 8 1/4".
